Hello, to the over 7,100 North Country Alumni!
In 1965 and 1966, community members of Essex and Franklin counties began discussion focused on the creation of a community college. Through hard work and perseverance, they convinced the State University of New York to approve and support a community college that would service their region. In 1967, the New York State Legislature, concurring with the State University of New York and the People of Essex and Franklin Counties, passed a resolution approving the charter of North Country Community College.
When the College opened its doors that first fall 1968 semester, 348 full-time and 193 part-time students were in attendance throughout various locations in the two counties. The early years were indeed trying times for the new college. Through the combined efforts of students, faculty, staff and the People of Essex and Franklin Counties, the College overcame many challenges and stands today as one of the most unique institutions of the State University of New York.
It has been forty years since the approval of North Country Community College's charter. So many things have changed at the College. North Country has moved from classes being held in basements and armories to the construction of two new campuses in Malone and Ticonderoga, and residence halls at the Saranac Lake campus.
As North Country moves forward, many exciting and wonderful changes in the areas of academic programming, community offerings, and renovations to the main campus are before us. The College is currently in the development phase of a new facilities master plan. Once completed, this plan will address the current and future needs of students, faculty, and the communities of Essex and Franklin Counties. As our students prepare for a future that will see them compete on a much broader goal level, North Country must be prepared to provide our future alumni with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.
Throughout the coming year, programs and discussions celebrating "40 Years of Excellence" will be held on all three campuses. We encourage all alumni to actively participate in the various events within their communities. We hope you will consider making a gift in support of future College efforts.
As we look forward to a bright future, we have not lost sight of our past. Your contributions to the success of North Country will forever have lasting impact on the College, your fellow alums, and the people of Essex and Franklin Counties.

Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL)
The Center for Lifelong Learning offers non-credit continuing education and community based courses. Children's Programs, Online Computer Training, Driver Education, Personal Enrichment Courses, and Swimming Course are among the Center for Lifelong Learning annual course offerings.
