Multiple Degree Requirements:
In some rare situations, students may seek more than one degree at North Country Community College. The College highly encourages graduates to pursue a Baccalaureate Degree after successful completion of a program at the College rather than dual Associate Degree recognition. If a student does enroll in a second-degree program upon graduation, he/she must meet the following guidelines:
- Complete at least 86 semester hours of credit for the second degree. For additional degrees, a minimum of 24 semester hours of credit must be earned beyond the graduation date of the last NCCC degree. A minimum of 15 semester hours toward each additional degree must be earned at NCCC.
- Satisfy one of the following:
- Satisfy the requirements for a different degree; or
- For the same degree but in a separate and distinct discipline;
- Apply for the degree and pay the prevailing graduation fee. Application for a degree is valid for one year. Students must reapply for the degree after one year has passed.
Graduation:
Students anticipating graduation in the following semester must:
- Apply and pay the prevailing fee. (Graduation applications are valid for one year)
- Be within six credits of graduation after completion of registered course load.
- Have a minimum GPA of 1.95 to apply for graduation.
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.00 to graduate and must meet all degree requirements.
- Students who do not complete their degree requirements and do not graduate within one year of filing the graduation application must reapply for graduation by submitting another "Application for a Degree or Certificate" at the time degree requirements are to be fulfilled. If the student breaks matriculation status (does not attend NCCC for one or more semesters) and degree requirements change, the student may be subject to completing the degree under the new requirements.
Transfer Articulation Agreements:
North Country Community College maintains several cooperative programs with other institutions. In such programs, students spend part of their college career at North Country and complete their degree requirements at the cooperating institution.
Students in good academic standing are guaranteed an opportunity to continue their education on a full-time basis at the SUNY four-year or senior campus. A 1980 SUNY Board of Trustee policy further stipulates that transfer articulation agreements between two and four-year institutions within SUNY be developed which further ensures that community college graduates can be accepted into parallel programs to complete a Baccalaureate Degree in four additional semesters at a four-year college.
Specific Cooperative and Transfer Articulation Agreements maintained by North Country Community College are described below. The College is in the process of developing additional agreements; students should consult the Career Planning and Placement Counselors. Any student who anticipates transferring to another institution under the terms of one of these agreements is urged to seek more detailed information from the Career Planning and Placement Counselors, or the appropriate Department Chair. Careful course selection and planning in consultation with a faculty advisor are required in order to prepare for transfer to upper-division study.
