Prospective Students - Admissions - Essex and Franklin County Scholarship

North Country Announces Essex and Franklin County Scholars Award:

North Country is pleased to announce the creation of the Essex and Franklin County Scholars Award starting with the fall 2008 entering class.  Any 2008 graduating public high school senior who is a resident of either Essex or Franklin County and is in the top 20 percent of their class will receive a full two-year tuition scholarship for their full-time attendance at North Country.  This scholarship carries a minimum two year total award of $6,680.

scholarship 08This scholar’s award is recognition of Essex and Franklin Counties’ best and brightest high school graduates.  “The creation of this award will allow these gifted students the opportunity to continue their education in college without the burden of huge student and parent loan debt.  Our secondary goal is to keep these individuals within our two counties and curtail the ‘brain drain’ that has been an ongoing problem.  It is a win-win situation for all involved,” stated North Country President Dr. Gail Roger Rice.

Rice added, “With the newly announced Franklin University bachelors degree program available to all North Country graduates, a student can now stay within our community for four years, save over $6,600 in their first two years of a four-year degree and continue on to a bachelors degree via online coursework at Franklin University and supplemental courses taken on North Country’s campus. I am confident in saying that students and their parents will see a combined college cost savings of over $20,000 through these two programs.”

Funding for the Essex & Franklin County Scholars award is provided by the North Country Foundation through the recent generous donation of $2.4 million from an anonymous donor.

Ed Trathen, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Services, noted, “Complete details of the North Country– Essex & Franklin County Scholars Award will be mailed to all public high school guidance offices within the two counties.  Area high schools will be required to certify in June of the graduation year, that the student graduated within the top 20 percent of their class and the award will be credited for each semester of full-time enrollment at North Country up to a maximum of four semesters.”
